Women I Know

Rooted in ongoing conversations with my mother about the matriarchy present in our Dominican heritage—where women both run the home and are the home—this series was created to celebrate and illuminate the women who empower me daily.

Taking a sociological approach, I posed the same question to each woman involved in the project to explore their intersectional responses and the strength found in their differences, while also highlighting what empowers them individually. Each participant plays a vital role by showing up as their most authentic selves, giving back to their communities, and standing firmly in their beliefs.

This series serves as a stepping stone toward memorializing and celebrating the many women who continue to guide and empower me—and so many others. To see more of the work featured in this series, visit the Women I Know photobook, available for purchase.

Women I Know Campaign

The video campaign is a further extension of this project, in which I asked both men and women within my South Florida community to tell me about the women they know. This experience was also a tool to grant each individual who comes into contact with this project the opportunity to reflect upon the importance of the women who surround them.
